Campus Access Process & Requirements

To access campus

    • If you have not already uploaded your proof of vaccination and booster visit: https://covidapps.mit.edu/vaccine-information#how-submit to do so as soon as possible. You will not be granted access to campus or the subsequent steps without completing this requirement.

    • Complete a brief training at: https://covidpass.mit.edu.

      • Frequency: Once before accessing campus for the first time.

    • MIT Medical booster: The Institute requires that MIT community members who are eligible for a booster shot receive their shot by January 14, 2022. If you have already gotten your booster shot, be sure to upload proof - Booster vaccine appointments are available at local pharmacies and at mobile clinics in the area.

    • Testing is optional and available for anyone in Covid Pass:

  • The W20 drop-off location for unobserved testing is open. The locations and times for picking up and dropping off unobserved self-testing kits and in-person testing can be found via Covid Pass

  • The drop-off location in the E25 Atrium will move to the trailer outside MIT Medical, which will remain open for anyone needing in-person testing.

    • You will now have access MIT external doors through any community access points. All internal door access has been automatically loaded based on your pre-pandemic access to internal spaces.

While accessing campus

  • Have your MIT ID at all times and wear it visibly

    • Internal doors that were previously unlocked may now require you to swipe through

    • Lanyards available in Lobby 7

    • Be sure your MIT ID says "Charlie Inside" on the back; ones that do not are old and will likely need replacing before they are recognized by the new Covidpass system on the MIT ID Card Readers.

  • Masking: Masking is something individuals can always do to reduce the spread of COVID. You must wear a mask indoors if you are unvaccinated, if you are not up to date with your booster shot, or when you are in MIT Medical or riding on MIT shuttle buses per state regulation. MIT will continue to make high-quality masks available on campus at the front desks of all residence halls and at testing sites.

Visitors & Tim Tickets

Policy

  • Guests are now welcome on campus and must follow MIT Covid Policies.

  • Guests should expect to provide contact information for contact tracing purposes.

  • Visitors are defined as invited guests coming to campus for a number of reasons: attend a meeting, repair equipment, speak in a class or event, tour campus or a lab, drop off catering, etc.

Process

  • Individuals who do not have an MIT ID and Kerberos account can be given temporary access to campus buildings using a visitor pass called a Tim Ticket.

  • Any MIT staff member with an active Kerberos account can use the Tim Tickets feature in the latest version of the MIT Atlas mobile application (iOS 13+ version 1.5.1 or greater or Android 7+ version 1.9.10 or greater) or the Tim Tickets visitor administration website to register a visitor for access to exterior doors shown on this map.

  • Visitors may use their Tim Ticket to access campus between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., seven days a week, with the exception of certain time-restricted buildings, noted on the map, which do not permit weekend visitor access.

  • Individuals who have an MIT ID and Kerberos account – including MIT students, employees, contractors, and affiliates who access campus regularly – use Covid Pass, not Tim Tickets.

  • Buildings 9 and 7 (along with several others) have external QR codes and are Tim Ticket access points.

  • There is no visitor cap per person beyond the number of people the Covidpass user could reasonably escort on their own, and the host is responsible for their guest(s) for the duration of their visit.

  • For information about current MIT policies, visit MIT Now.
